Simple VPS reference
How Simple VPS works, from the plans to the uptime. Prices are on the product page.
Plans
A plan sets the vCPUs, memory, disk and traffic of a server. The id is what the API, scli and Terraform take.
| Plan | Id | vCPU | CPU ceiling | Memory | Disk | Traffic a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VPS 0.75 | vps2-075 | 1 | 0.5 core | 768 MB | 10 GB | 500 GB |
| VPS 1 | vps2-1 | 1 | all vCPUs | 1 GB | 20 GB | 1 TB |
| VPS 2 | vps2-2 | 2 | all vCPUs | 2 GB | 40 GB | 2 TB |
| VPS 4 | vps2-4 | 2 | all vCPUs | 4 GB | 80 GB | 3 TB |
| VPS 8 | vps2-8 | 4 | all vCPUs | 8 GB | 160 GB | 4 TB |
| VPS 16 | vps2-16 | 8 | all vCPUs | 16 GB | 320 GB | 5 TB |
| VPS 32 | vps2-32 | 8 | all vCPUs | 32 GB | 640 GB | 6 TB |
The CPU ceiling is how much CPU time the server may use in total, spread over its vCPUs. Only the smallest plan has one below its vCPUs; on the others every vCPU may run at full speed when the host has room. The CPU model depends on the host the server lands on.
The disk is the local disk of the host, NVMe or SSD, up to 250 MB/s and 10,000 IOPS on every plan.
Plans run on capacity we have free. Each one shows In stock, Few left or Out of stock in the create wizard and in scli vps plans. We may stop taking new orders at any time; servers that run keep running.
Systems
| Id | System |

Your own ISO cannot be installed on a VPS. For that, take a cloud server.
Network
Every server has its own public IPv4 address and an IPv6 /56, on a 1 Gbit/s port. The addresses stay the same through a reboot, a plan change and a reinstall.
The server gets a name of the form NAME-xxxxxx.vm.scamp.pro, used as its hostname, its DNS name and the reverse DNS of both addresses. You can set your own reverse DNS on the server page or with the API, any valid hostname outside vm.scamp.pro. Point the name's A and AAAA records to the server yourself: mail servers check that both directions match.
Traffic out of the server counts against the plan's monthly quota, traffic in is free. After the quota the port runs at 100 Mbit/s until the next month. The month is a calendar month in UTC.
Outgoing port 25 is closed, as on every new server. Mail goes through a mail service.
Billing
A VPS is billed by the hour from your balance, the first hour when it is created. The price a month is 720 hours. A stopped VPS is billed the same as a running one, because its capacity stays reserved.
Creating a VPS needs a balance that covers one month of the plan. When the balance runs out, the server is stopped and marked unpaid; to start it again, top up enough for 24 hours of the plan.
Backups
Daily backups run once a night and the last 5 are kept, stored off the server. They add 20% to the plan price. Turn them on and off on the server page, where you can also make a backup now and restore one.
A restore puts the whole disk back to the backup; what was written after it is gone. Turning backups off deletes every backup of the server.
Bigger plan
A server can move to a bigger plan on its page, with scli vps resize or the API. It restarts to pick the plan up and keeps its disk and addresses. The disk grows and cannot shrink, so there is no way back to a smaller plan.
Reinstall
Reinstall erases the disk and installs a fresh system, the same or another one, with a new SSH key or root password. The server keeps its name, addresses, DNS names and backups.
Console and terminal
The server page has a Console, the screen and keyboard of the server over VNC, and a Terminal on its serial port with copy and paste. Both work without the network or SSH, so you can watch the server boot and fix it when you are locked out.
VPS and cloud servers
| Simple VPS | Cloud server | |
|---|---|---|
| Disk | Local disk of the host | Replicated network storage |
| CPU | Best effort under the plan's ceiling | Burst or Sustained with a guaranteed share |
| Private networks, routers | No | Yes |
| Floating IPs, load balancers | No | Yes |
| Volumes, snapshots | No | Yes |
| Security groups, VPN Gateway, Private and Public DNS | No | Yes |
| Backups | Daily when turned on, the last 5 kept | Scheduled and on demand, off-site copies |
| Systems | The 4 systems above | All OS templates and your own ISO |
| Uptime | 99.9% target, no service credits | 99.99% SLA with service credits |
A VPS cannot be moved to the cloud or connected to it. To move, set up a cloud server and copy your data over.
Limits
How many VPS an account can have and how large a plan can be depends on the account level. Your limits are on the Service Limits page in the Cloud Panel, where you can also ask for more.
Uptime
Simple VPS has a 99.9% monthly uptime target and no service credits when we miss it. A server that takes much more than its share of the host, or is used against the Acceptable Use Policy, may have its CPU, disk or network slowed. The details are in the Terms.
